Happy new Year

i miss each new year that i celebrated at my home,
we used to have new year celebrations at our housing colony club, the stage would be set up on a square concrete structure which stand near the basketball court, chairs red and blue will be lined up in rows.after the sunset families flock to the venue ,its just hours for the year to end, they always have a cake displayed right in front of the stage, just when its seconds to midnight, all with loud unified voice joins the countdown and at the strike of the midnight its the new year blast, with cake cutting and distribution ,we wish each other for a prosperous new year.to be true i never had a bite of that cake for the 8 long years i have stayed there, every year i and my younger sister would be the best kids for that very day so that we could impress our parents and let them grant our wish to stay till midnight.but we never won.father used to say 'c all your friends will go back before midnight, there will no one,i have something else for you at home'.we used to whine "please acha.." says :"no i said no" we try for compromise "ok then we will watch tv till midnight..agreed??"he says to our relief "yes sure",the only channel at that time was doordarshan,i remember anu malik's baazigar song live performance and the countdown shows like top 10 songs, top 10 movies of the year, even though the programs are similar year after year,we still loved it,it would have been the same that was in ek se badkar ek and chitrahaar shows.
As we reached the venue which is walkable distance from our house,i still remember the bliss and the smile that i hid ,i ran across the crowds to the front rows.it was just a week after the school has closed and i still have the dying desire to see my friends, the little chit chats about vacation trips, the games we played etc,it never stopped.we kids are supposed to stay in the 1st or 2nd rows where its convenient for our mothers to keep an eye on us from behind, the bingo game was the one i liked the most ,the uncle(for years he was the caller), shakes the container with the numbers and picks up one and calls out Clickety click ,All the sixes, 6 and 6 its 66 aravathi aare, with heads down on the ticket we strain our eyes on all numbers for the ones called,i had so much optimistic fire in me that sometimes 2 would appear to me as 8,or a 3 to 6.and then i would sneak into my friends ticket."i had an 8 " ,she searches mine where..???you dont have an eight...! then when i blink and look again ,i find out 2 .
"Bingo"someone would shout out, i used to pray for my numbers, losing does not matter that much, strangely i made myself believe that kids dont win, there is something tricky ,and that wiped away my grief.this was followed by a ganamela which i dont mind hearing the same songs a thousand times, the hits of those days ,just two got over and mother came to pick us both, not exactly pick, i must say dragging, as we grew up ,when in high school our parents had hectic time searching us,both of us know the deadline,we just vanish from the spot at the correct time, and father used to go round and whomever he finds he tells them to inform us to come to the parking plot, mean people i should say, i used get so angry that i wish i could punch them on face ,now when i think about all these stuff its so funny.( we were really mean ...)
after 5 mins we decide to give up,father does not scold or get angry,he just likes the fun i guess.he would try acting arrogant but we laugh and he joins .once at home we sit to watch the tv,and at 12 its cake, father's home made wine.my new year resolutions are safe in my school diary, that i dont care to open it.its the same resolution for the entire school years.be better in everything than this year.anyway there is a pledge when school reopens.(lazy)
and thus new year celebrations remained the same all my 12yrs in school, but each new year gave me the proud feeling of growing up.i had this weird idea that birthday is when you grow up alone and new year is when the entire world grow up together(i being a part of it).
when we are still a kid there is always rush to reach adulthood,to feel what life has to offer.every year there is something new that happens, physically, mentally, new place, new friends, new objectives, new things keep coming and each change is a giant leap for us.there is no looking back and life moves pretty fast and then at one point in life we reach a stage when we think about the olden times.and we pretty much have no hurry and prefer to move slowly, we did not miss the school when we were in college.we did not miss the college when we were settled.it takes time to value those days in your life.
Today is 31st i cant stop thinking about these::
i miss :
school(my 12 yrs )
my colony(where i grew up)
my friends(not met for years)
our school diary(morning prayers,rules,absence record,note to parents,excuse report,homeworks)
our school assembly(prayers)
out p.t classes(masti)
our co-curricular activites(list is long, even had clay modelling..)
i miss our school day celebration(foundation day)
i our school lunch(yummy.)
i miss my school bus(masti)
i miss my vacations
[i dont miss my exams lol]
my mud kitchen utensils
i miss all the tiny games that i enjoyed as kid be it that simple gold spot, name place animal thing, lock and key ,police robber..
i do miss our good old doordarshan
its suprising that everything that we see, hear,do while in school is better than anything else we have done.
HE MAN,MAUGALI, is better than flinstones or popeye or garfield.
UDAAN,MALGUDI DAYS and SEA HAWKS are the best.
while i was browsing with all these nostalgia i came across a blog dedicated to our good old doordarshan shows.just have to peek to have a memory refresh,i bet you will enjoy...
http://ddnational.blogspot.com/
i miss onam and christmas of those days, all i can do is to enjoy the nostalgia and look forward for years that will keep everyone joyful ,when in future i get reminded of todays feelings when i read this again.
Wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year...!!

SlumDog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire is one movie that you definitely don't want to miss before this year ends. The movie is directed by the English director Danny Boyle. Its already running in theatres in US.its been dubbed into Hindi and set to release in India in Jan.
Its a touching story that centers around the life of a slum dweller who turns out to be the winner of the show 'who wants to be a millionaire ?'.With his little education and life in slums how could someone answer all the questions.its not that easy, surprisingly his destiny has it all ,including his determination to pursue his love from childhood who gets dragged away from him from time to time.its a relaxing ,very touching and wonderful movie that clearly draws the inside story of the life of struggles.
the music is awesome, the movie also has a track song by M.I.A :paper planes, which is already hit of the generation.
the movie starts with the best track by A R Rahman,,the song was directed in Mumbai slum, its a disheartening view of the poverty, but the song resonates a happy tone that captures the very essence of the family life and colors and happiness of this slum world of the people and their lives.
the entire movie centers around a kid that wins the show who happens to know the answers from his life events.he has no dreams of the riches that the show offers,he ends up in the show to prove his love to Latika who is a fan of the show,a way to reach her.his relation with his brother often raptures, still his trust in him never fails and finally his brother does pay his love back.the movie is all about destiny.he gets captured by the police doubting if he is cheat,as he is been questioned ,his life from childhood unfolds in front of us,the events in life that gives answers to the surprisingly co incidental questions that are asked for the show, its destined that he should win..
the beauty of the movie is all about the story.there is no extraordinary hero's and heroines.Ordinary people in ordinary world, touching life.there will be no unstoppable tears, just a peek into an ordinary life of a guy who gets very very lucky .this movie is really worth watching.
All actors including the child artists have done the best work, the confidence ,the immense energy that drives their struggle to life all is well depicted by the actors.
As we, usually are the audiences to unpredictable suspense ending and climax of indian movies,we might expect something bigger than what is offered in the movie. But that does not stop us from admiring the movie.the movies is based on the novel named as Q&A by vikas swarup. Its already been nominated for 4 Golden Globes, with another 15 wins & 11 nominations. click here to view all the awards.
movie Details

slap him hard...
for those who are the fans of mtv roadies ,here's your chance,i bet there in one guy whom you want to slap..raghu the devil.
he works in mtv,in fact he is the producer of mtv india and co judge in the show mtv roadies.
when i watch the audition rounds ,i used to get so angry that i found myself calling bad words than this great guru of mtv.whenever he opens his month its censor tone by mtv.the only only words you get to hear is ,'you','loser',get out......., etc man this guy is psychohe is insulting, ruthless, mean, merciless, an encyclopedia of bad words,0% patience, rude ...
i used to support him 'he is just straight forward ',most of the contestants that come to show usually shows a fake character which this guy cleanly rips it off with his merciless questions and infact finds out the stone hearted ones, kicks off the soft ones.he can identity it fast and he does it too in a mean manner.i cant stop to admire his statement of the final round of mtv roadies 5,whatever he said was the truth,he wasn't happy with whoever is going to be the winner(be it ashutosh or nikhil) ,guess most of them felt the same ,ashutosh was not the that smart to be the winner.all the smart ones in the shows were busy eliminating all the potential threats ,ashutosh was not good at his tasks also, there is very little that he has contributed to money raised. So thumps up for raghus statement.
but whatever he does or says, his rudeness is unbearable...so here's your chance to slap him hard...!
there is a game in www.in.com which gives us a chance to slap him,and here also expect the bad man to provoke you.

Carol of the Bells
Wherever we went ,the shopping malls, theater, and even in radio ,this is the one song we always heard, the one that i think no one we willl miss in this festive season, absolutely splendid music ,it was as if the whole of the country is drunk in it.
Named as the "Carol of the bells", its actually a ukranian folk song, based on folk chant which they beleive has some magical powers, originally the song was know as 'Shchedrik' ,a new year carol(in pre christian time new year in ukraine was in april). It tells a tale about a swallow that comes to household to sing of the wealth that comes in spring.
Its a beautiful song, listen to a piano version.

the song was also in the soundtrack for the movie Home Alone and Harry Potter.
the English Lyrics was developed in 1936:
Hark how the bells,
sweet silver bells,
all seem to say,
throw cares away
Christmas is here,
bringing good cheer,
to young and old,
meek and the bold,
Ding dong ding dong
that is their song
with joyful ring
all caroling
One seems to hear
words of good cheer
from everywhere
filling the air
Oh how they pound,
raising the sound,
o'er hill and dale,
telling their tale,
Gaily they ring
while people sing
songs of good cheer,
Christmas is here,
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas,
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas,
On on they send,
on without end,
their joyful tone
to every home
Ding dong ding dong... dong!
